The community of Wakarusa, Indiana, is mourning the passing of Kim Sellers, age 56, who died peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 11:47 a.m. after a seven-year battle with cancer.
A woman whose life was defined by resilience, faith, and love, Kim’s influence extended far beyond her family, into classrooms, athletic arenas, and friendships that spanned a lifetime.
Kim was born on January 10, 1969, in Bremen, Indiana, to Robert and Sue (Welch) Hickman. From an early age, she displayed the grit, determination, and energy that would come to define her.
A 1987 Bremen High School graduate, Kim excelled as a three-sport athlete in volleyball, basketball, and tennis, earning her place in the Bremen High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Her natural leadership and commitment to her teams made her a role model for many young athletes.
She carried that same drive into her college years at Huntington University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1991 while once again competing as a three-sport athlete—this time in tennis, basketball, and softball.
Her time as a Forester cemented her athletic legacy, and her contributions were later honored with induction into the Huntington University Athletic Hall of Fame. She later pursued her passion for learning by earning a Master’s Degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene University.
On August 13, 1994, Kim married the love of her life, Norm Sellers, in Bremen. Together, they built a beautiful life, first in Bremen and later in Wakarusa, where they raised their three sons.
Kim’s greatest joy was being a mother. She poured her heart into supporting Trent, Chad, and Kyle in their academic, athletic, and personal pursuits. Whether cheering them on from the sidelines, planning family trips, or simply spending quiet evenings together, Kim was their biggest fan and source of unconditional love.
Kim’s professional life was equally remarkable. She dedicated herself as a 4th grade teacher for Bremen Public Schools, where her warm spirit, patience, and enthusiasm left a lasting mark on countless students.
Her colleagues describe her as someone who not only taught lessons but instilled confidence, kindness, and curiosity in every child she taught. Outside of her professional and athletic achievements, Kim loved life’s simple joys.
The beach was her happy place, a retreat where she found peace and treasured memories with her family. She equally cherished ski trips to Northern Michigan during Christmas breaks, adventures that strengthened her family’s bond.
Kim also loved shopping, whether online or in person, and expressed her creativity through art and pottery classes, creating keepsakes that will remain treasured by family and friends. At home, her beloved dogs, Wrigley and River, were her constant companions, bringing her comfort and joy.
Kim is survived by her devoted husband of 31 years, Norm Sellers; her three sons: Trent (Alexis Houk) Sellers of Wakarusa, Chad (Kylie) Sellers of Carmel, IN, and Kyle Sellers of Wakarusa; her brother, Dr. Kevin (Heidi) Hickman of Bremen; and three nephews: Dawson, Camden, and Maddux Hickman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Sue Hickman.
Visitation will be held from 3–7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel (Door H) and again from 10–11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, in the Nappanee Missionary Church Worship Center (Door A).
A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with Pastor Mike Raasch of Living Gospel Church officiating. Kim will be laid to rest in Bremen Cemetery.
Kim Sellers will be remembered for her strength, kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy will live on through her children, her students, and all who were blessed to know her.
