On August 25, 2025, the Pulaski Academy and greater Little Rock community were shaken by the sudden passing of Matt Pulley, age 49. A devoted husband, father, and colleague, Matt’s life was defined by faith, love for his family, and a deep commitment to others.
He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth, their son Tyler, a senior at Pulaski Academy, and their daughter Maddy Kate, a junior at Ouachita Baptist University.
For nearly two decades, Matt served as Assistant Head of Enrollment at Pulaski Academy, where his warm smile and welcoming presence were often the very first impression families had of the school.
His colleagues and friends describe him as someone who had the rare ability to put people at ease instantly, making everyone feel like they belonged. “For the last 18 years, Assistant Head of Enrollment Matt Pulley’s welcoming demeanor and big smile have been among the first memories many families have of Pulaski Academy,” a school statement shared.
“We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Elizabeth, and their children, Maddy Kate (‘23) and Tyler (‘26), as we hold them close in our thoughts during this difficult time. Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the loss of Matt, a father, husband, friend, and colleague who left an indelible mark at PA.”
That impact is evident in the countless tributes pouring in from families, students, and staff. One parent reflected: “Matt is the reason my girls attend PA. We toured multiple schools when we moved to this area. His heart for students and the PA community let us know we were in the right place. My heart goes out to his family. He was a beautiful human and the depth of your loss is unfathomable.”
Those who knew Matt best describe him as genuine, humble, loyal, and joy-filled. His laughter could fill a room, and his sense of humor made every gathering brighter. He had the ability to turn ordinary moments into memories through his wit, his kindness, and his unwavering presence.
“If Matt was there, you knew you were going to have a good time,” a close friend said. Matt’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He loved Jesus deeply, and that devotion was reflected in how he lived—through compassion, integrity, and love for his family.
Elizabeth and the kids were at the center of his world. His pride in Tyler’s accomplishments and his admiration for Maddy Kate’s dedication were evident to all who knew him. Beyond family and work, Matt was also a passionate fan of football, particularly Baylor football, which he followed enthusiastically.
As the community processes this sudden and heartbreaking loss, friends, colleagues, church family, and loved ones have come together to support the Pulley family. A fundraiser has been established to help Elizabeth, Tyler, and Maddy Kate during this difficult time.
“The hole he leaves is immense, and yet even now we’re held by the hope Matt lived with and pointed us to. This fundraiser is a way for all of us—family, friends, teammates, classmates, colleagues, church family—to show up for Matt’s family right now,” the organizers shared.
Matt Pulley’s legacy will endure through the lives he touched. His laughter, faith, and selflessness will remain a guiding light for his family and the Pulaski Academy community. Though his passing leaves an immense void, the hope and love he lived with continue to shine.
