Matthias Rudnick Plover WI Obituary- Professional Film Creator and Cinematographer Dies at 22

It is with deep sadness that the family of Matthias Paul Rudnick announces his unexpected passing on August 21, 2025, at just 22 years old. Though his time on earth was far too brief, Matthias left a lasting impression on everyone he met through his kindness, creativity, and joy for life.

Born on January 7, 2003, in Stevens Point, WI, Matthias was the beloved son of Paul and Jennifer (King) Rudnick. He grew up in Plover, where his early years were filled with curiosity, adventure, and an eagerness to embrace every opportunity. He attended St. Paul Lutheran and Roosevelt Elementary Schools, later moving on to Ben Franklin Jr. High and Stevens Point Area High School (SPASH).

At SPASH, Matthias was a well-rounded student who balanced academics, athletics, music, and theater. He played football and competed in track and field, while also thriving in the arts. He joined choir, jazz band, and the drama department, where he shined on stage in school productions.

His talent and dedication earned him a leading role in the school musical Mamma Mia, a highlight of his high school career. Outside the classroom, Matthias also displayed discipline and perseverance by earning his black belt at Catura’s Martial Arts. A proud graduate of the SPASH Class of 2021, Matthias embodied the spirit of his community with his vibrant energy and determination.

Faith played an important role in his life. Matthias was actively involved in St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Woodlands youth groups, where he found strength and fellowship. He often ushered at services and performed in the praise band, using his musical talents to bring joy to worship.

After high school, Matthias pursued his passion for communication and film at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. A gifted storyteller, he excelled both academically and creatively, graduating with honors in May 2025.

While he enjoyed creating his own projects, his greatest fulfillment came from helping others share their visions through film and cinematography. His adventurous spirit took him abroad to London, where he immersed himself in new cultures and experiences that deepened his perspective. Following graduation, Matthias began building a promising career in film production in Minneapolis.

Matthias’s interests stretched far beyond his professional life. He loved listening to and playing music, spending time with family and friends, and traveling to discover new places. He served his community as a member of the 911 Memorial Restoration Group in 2017 and later as a board member of Skyward, Inc. in Stevens Point. Known for his warm hugs, bright smile, and adventurous outlook, Matthias’s presence brought light to every room.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Jennifer Rudnick of Plover; his sister, Katie (Josh) Ferguson of Stevens Point; his brother, Nathaniel (Kat) Rudnick of Stevens Point; and his maternal grandparents, Jim and Jean King of Plover. He is further survived by his aunt, Julie (Gerard St. Hilaire) King of Custer; uncles, Jerry (Abby) King of Plover and Don (Cheryl) Rudnick of Milwaukee; and four cousins. Matthias was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Martin and Bernice Rudnick of Milwaukee.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 1919 Wyatt Avenue, Stevens Point. Visitation will take place Friday, September 5, from 4:00–8:00 PM, and again on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Following the burial, the family invites friends and loved ones to a Celebration of Life at Oso’s Brewery in Plover from 3:00–9:00 PM. This gathering will honor Matthias’s adventurous, joyful spirit and the love he shared with so many.

Though his time was short, Matthias’s life was filled with purpose, love, and light. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
