It is with heavy hearts that the Adrian College community and all who knew him mourn the loss of Chris Stansik, a former Bulldog hockey standout, who passed away this past week at the age of 39. Born on February 7, 1986, in Livonia, Michigan, Chris grew to become not only an exceptional athlete but also a leader, teammate, and friend whose legacy will long be remembered both on and off the ice.
Stansik’s journey with Adrian College hockey began in the program’s earliest days, and his name will forever be tied to its history. On October 15, 2007, he scored the first goal in the program’s history during a commanding 9-2 victory over SUNY Potsdam. That historic moment set the tone for a career defined by skill, perseverance, and a passion for the sport. Over the course of his collegiate career, Stansik tallied 135 career points in 113 games, an impressive feat for a defenseman, and his on-ice vision and tenacity quickly earned him the respect of teammates and competitors alike.
Throughout his four years with the Bulldogs, Stansik’s consistency and leadership stood out. He was a two-time All-American, a four-time All-Conference selection, and in his senior year, he was named Co-Captain of the team during the 2011–2012 season. His contributions helped shape Adrian College into a respected name in collegiate hockey, inspiring younger players and leaving an indelible mark on the program’s identity.
His achievements did not go unnoticed. In 2024, more than a decade after his graduation, Stansik was formally recognized for his contributions and excellence when he was inducted into the Adrian College Athletic Hall of Fame. This honor solidified his place not only in the school’s history books but also in the hearts of those who watched him play and grow as a leader.
Beyond statistics and accolades, those who knew Chris remember him as someone who approached every challenge with determination and grace. Friends and teammates often described him as selfless, approachable, and endlessly supportive—a player who made everyone around him better. His love for the game was matched only by his commitment to the people in his life, and it is that legacy of kindness and camaraderie that resonates most strongly in the wake of his passing.
To honor his life, family, friends, and the community are invited to attend his viewing and mass on Thursday, September 4, at St. Alphonsus Church, 7455 Calhoun St., Dearborn, MI 48126. The viewing will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., immediately followed by mass.
Though Chris Stansik’s life was cut short far too soon, his story is one of achievement, inspiration, and impact. From his historic first goal for Adrian College hockey to his leadership as a co-captain and his recognition in the Hall of Fame, Chris’s legacy will continue to inspire generations of Bulldogs. He will be dearly missed but forever remembered.
