Rowland Buck Obituary, Death; – A pastor from Tennessee has passed away after police reported that he was sideswiped by a semi-truck while riding his bicycle in the morning.
The deceased has been identified as Rowland Buck, a 61-year-old pastor affiliated with St. Mark’s Global Methodist Church in Louisville.
“He was a genuine person,” remarked a friend and fellow pastor regarding Buck. A Tennessee pastor is being lovingly remembered following his tragic death in a cycling accident.
The incident took place on East Hunt Road at North Wright Road in Alcoa shortly before 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday, August 26, as detailed in a news release from the Alcoa Police Department (APD).
Police indicated that a semi-truck and a cyclist “were traveling in the same direction before the collision.” In a subsequent news release, they clarified that the truck sideswiped the cyclist, leading to the accident.
First responders “promptly” administered CPR to the cyclist upon their arrival at the scene, according to police reports. The cyclist was then transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Hospital in critical condition, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The cyclist has been identified as Rowland Buck, 61, from Alcoa, as per police information.
Buck served as a pastor at St. Mark’s Global Methodist Church, as stated by church officials. He “joined St. Mark’s of Louisville in 2019” and was recognized as “an ordained elder in the Global Methodist Church,” according to the church’s official website.
Rev. Todd Chancey, superintendent of the MidSouth Annual Conference of the Global Methodist Church, expressed in a statement that Buck held the position of dean of the Cabinet of the MidSouth Annual Conference and was the presiding elder of the Knoxville District in Tennessee.
As reported by The Chattanoogan, Buck was married to his high school sweetheart, Sinda, for 38 years.
Jason Rowe, a friend and fellow pastor of Buck, shared with ABC affiliate WATE that Buck was “a mighty warrior, a man of faith, [and] a man who deeply loved Jesus.”
“He was a genuine person,” Rowe elaborated, noting that Buck “embodied” his faith and “desired for others to experience and understand the peace of Christ.”
“He expressed his love for people in that manner,” Rowe concluded.
