Zaquan George,Maggie Erdie Obituary, Death; – A man from Pennsylvania has been convicted for his role in a deadly accident that took place in Monongalia County in January 2024.
Thomas Horner, III, was found guilty on two counts of vehicular homicide concerning the fatalities of Zaquan George, 21, and Maggie Erdie, 19, as well as one count of reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury to two other motorists, as stated by the Monongalia County Prosecutor’s Office.
During the jury trial held on Wednesday, officials characterized the three-vehicle fatal collision, which occurred on I-79 near mile marker 150 on January 3rd, 2024, as an incident of road rage.
Two independent witnesses provided testimony during the trial, stating that Horner maneuvered his vehicle in a bid to obstruct and force the vehicle operated by George and Erdie off the road. This action led to George and Erdie’s vehicle losing control, crossing the median into oncoming traffic, and colliding with another vehicle.
Horner is facing a potential sentence of up to one year in jail along with fines ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 for each count of vehicular homicide, in addition to a jail term of 30 days to one year and fines between $50 and $1,000 for reckless driving resulting in serious bodily injury. His sentencing will occur at a later date.
The investigation was conducted by Detective Josh Ward of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, with prosecution led by Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Rob Zak.
Zak expressed his admiration for the courage displayed by the witnesses who reported their observations to law enforcement.
