BENTON, Pa. — 57-year-old Jody Travelpiece tragically lost his life Friday when the dump truck he was driving overturned on State Route 6 near Rummerfield Road in Standing Stone Township, leaving the local community in mourning.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Travelpiece was hauling a substantial load of stone westbound when the front passenger-side tire of his truck is believed to have left the roadway around noon. In an apparent effort to regain control, the truck overcorrected, causing the heavily loaded vehicle to roll violently onto its driver’s side before coming to rest in the center of the road.
First responders arrived swiftly, finding Travelpiece trapped inside the cab. Despite their best efforts to extricate him and provide emergency care, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities continue to investigate the exact circumstances that caused the truck’s tire to leave the pavement. Multiple agencies responded to the scene, ensuring the area was secured while the investigation unfolded.
