COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Columbus community is mourning the loss of 17-year-old Victor Hinton, who was fatally shot Friday afternoon at the Virginia Arms apartments on the 1700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting around 3:20 p.m. and transported Hinton to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan confirmed Hinton’s identity and said he will undergo an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

The Columbus Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No further details have been released at this time.
