Don Avery Obituary, Death; – A homicide investigation has commenced following the discovery of a missing Cleveland man’s body, which was found wrapped in a sheet in his own backyard, as reported by 19 Investigates.
According to the Cleveland Division of Police records, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 7700 block of Melrose Avenue at approximately 9 p.m. on Saturday to perform a welfare check.
A woman informed the police that she typically communicated with her father, 66-year-old Don Avery, via phone daily, but she had not seen or heard from him since August 20.
Records indicate that at least three officers arrived at Avery’s residence on Saturday evening and discovered the front door obstructed by a wagon and shattered glass in front of the entrance.
Dispatchers reported that items had also been scattered inside the house.
A police report indicates that officers surveyed the perimeter of the property but “did not observe anything unusual.”
Several hours later, the body of the missing man was found behind his residence.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, records reveal that Avery’s daughter contacted the police again, stating that she had discovered her missing father bound in his backyard.
“According to initial reports, the victim was found by family members wrapped in a sheet, who subsequently notified the police,” the department’s Office of Public Affairs stated in an email to 19 Investigates on Friday.
Records show that Cleveland EMS declared Avery deceased at 7:36 p.m.
The Cuyahoga Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that they were summoned to Avery’s residence on Melrose Avenue on Sunday evening, but they have yet to officially disclose the victim’s name or the cause and manner of death.
Cleveland Police have stated that Avery’s death is under investigation by the department’s Homicide Unit.
We are still awaiting a response from the police regarding whether any suspects have been identified or apprehended.
