Mark W Spelts,Victoria Vickie A Spelts Obituary, Death;- Authorities have formally identified the two individuals who lost their lives in a plane crash near Mosby on Wednesday as a couple hailing from Chico, California.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office confirmed today that 76-year-old Mark W. Spelts and 75-year-old Victoria “Vickie” A. Spelts perished when their twin-engine aircraft went down in a soybean field.

The couple was piloting a Cessna C340 from Washington, Missouri, and was in the process of landing at the Midwest National Air Center when the incident occurred just prior to noon on Wednesday, August 27.

Dispatchers initially received reports of significant smoke emanating from a field located near Northeast 140th Street and Rhodus Road. Upon the arrival of deputies at the scene, they discovered the aircraft completely engulfed in flames.

The Sheriff’s Office was awaiting forensic confirmation from the medical examiner before proceeding with an official identification.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are spearheading the investigation to ascertain the cause of the crash.
