LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. — A tragic accident on Saturday afternoon claimed the life of 34-year-old Cory L. Stevenson of Florence, Alabama. Authorities with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported that Stevenson was operating a 2015 Sportsman 570 ATV when the vehicle left the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned. The incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. on August 30 on Lauderdale County Road 24 near Hike Drive, about five miles north of Florence.
Stevenson was thrown from the ATV and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lauderdale County coroner’s office. First responders arrived quickly, but were unable to save him.
State Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division are actively investigating the crash to determine the circumstances that led to this fatal incident. No further details have been released at this time.
The crash serves as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with operating off-road vehicles and the importance of safety measures, including protective gear and adherence to speed guidelines.
