Mya Jean Maus Obituary, Death; – Support is being extended to the family of a 17-year-old who tragically lost her life in a crash in Sibley County early Saturday morning.

Mya Jean Maus, aged 17, from Henderson, passed away while driving on Highway 19, just east of Gaylord, when she was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, as reported by the Minnesota State Patrol.

The three individuals in the other vehicle, which included another 17-year-old driver, were taken to the hospital with injuries. The condition of the driver remains unknown, while two adult passengers sustained life-threatening injuries. The State Patrol indicated that none of the three occupants in the other vehicle were wearing seatbelts. In response to Maus’ passing, a Meal Train has been set up for her family, enabling community members to provide meals in the upcoming weeks.

Additionally, a fundraiser has been initiated to assist the family with lost wages and funeral costs. By midday Sunday, the fundraiser had accumulated approximately $11,000 towards its $15,000 target.

“Your kindness—whether through meals, donations, or simply keeping them in your thoughts and prayers—will enable them to concentrate on being together, mourning, and healing without the burden of daily responsibilities,” states the Meal Train.

Tributes to Maus have also been shared on social media.

Bayside Manor, an assisted living facility in Gaylord where Maus served as an aide, characterized her as “sassy, kind, funny, and absolutely perfect in all the ways that mattered.”
The crash is still under investigation by the State Patrol.
