Three Dead in Separate Crashes on Ohio Turnpike in Erie County

ERIE COUNTY, Ohio — A deadly morning on the Ohio Turnpike claimed three lives in two separate accidents Sunday, authorities confirmed.

The first crash occurred around 6:40 a.m., just east of the Frailey Road overpass. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a truck operated by a man from Indianapolis veered off the road and collided with a stationary tow truck that had its emergency lights on. The passenger of the truck, 32-year-old Dantrail Reese, also from Indianapolis, was pronounced dead at the scene. The tow truck driver, who was outside the vehicle at the time, was unharmed.

Traffic delays from the initial crash contributed to a second accident shortly after 7:30 a.m. A Toyota Sienna struck the rear of a Peterbilt 389 tractor-tanker combination. Both the driver and passenger of the Sienna were pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver sustained no injuries. Their identities have not yet been released.

Officials closed the affected portion of the Ohio Turnpike for approximately three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

Investigations into both accidents are ongoing as authorities seek to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic events.
