TAMPA, Fla. — A heavy police presence was reported at the University of South Florida’s Tampa campus Saturday afternoon after authorities responded to reports of shots fired at the USF Library. The incident led to an immediate evacuation of the building as officers rushed inside with weapons drawn.
Witnesses described a tense scene, saying police quickly moved students and staff to safety while surrounding the library. A helicopter provided aerial support as law enforcement secured the area.
“I’m not sure what is happening. Police just showed up with guns out and headed upstairs,” one student said after being evacuated. “I’m shaken, but I’m safe.”
USF Police have not confirmed the nature of the threat, and no injuries have been reported. As a precaution, the library and surrounding areas remain closed. Students and faculty are urged to avoid the area until further notice.
