WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Police Department has arrested an 80-year-old woman from Augusta in connection with a devastating crash that claimed the lives of two Wichita women. The woman faces two counts of second-degree homicide.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Central and Webb Road. According to authorities, a black Chevrolet truck traveling east on Central collided with a white BMW and a gray Jeep, both traveling south on Webb.

Inside the BMW were 42-year-old Lashea Bell and her 25-year-old passenger, Aniah Bell, both of Wichita. Lashea Bell was pronounced dead at the scene, while Aniah was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the gray Jeep, a 41-year-old man, was treated at the scene and released.

The driver of the Chevrolet, who sustained injuries in the crash, was taken to a nearby hospital. An officer remained with her during treatment, and once medically cleared, she was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on two counts of second-degree homicide.

Investigators believe that speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office for formal charges.
