CHICAGO — A young mother has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting Sunday evening in the Altgeld Gardens neighborhood on the city’s Far South Side.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the victim as Dajah Manning, 26, who was shot to death in the 13200 block of South Ellis Avenue on August 31, 2025.
According to police, the shooting occurred during an argument between Manning and another woman. The confrontation escalated, leading the female offender to pull out a firearm and open fire. Manning was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives say they are actively searching for the suspect and have not released her identity at this time. Authorities are urging anyone with information to submit an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com.
The tragedy has left friends, family, and the Altgeld Gardens community grieving the loss of a young woman described as a loving mother whose life was cut far too short.
