11-Year-Old Julian Guzman Dies After Being Shot During ‘Ding-Dong Ditch’ Prank

HOUSTON, Texas — Police have detained a suspect after 11-year-old Julian Guzman was fatally shot while playing a “ding-dong ditch” prank in Houston’s Eastside late Saturday night.

The shooting happened at a residence in the 9700 block of Mimbrough, where investigators say a group of children were ringing doorbells and running away. During the prank, a man reportedly came outside and opened fire, striking Guzman multiple times in the back.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

Authorities confirmed that several firearms were recovered from the suspect’s home. The individual, described only as a middle-aged man, was taken into custody at the scene. Police have not yet released his name or announced formal charges.

Neighbors expressed sorrow and outrage over the tragedy. Theresa Jones, who lives nearby, said, “It’s really sad. A bullet doesn’t have a name.”

The Houston Police Department’s Major Assault Division continues to investigate.
