Aaron Hammer Obituary, Death; – A 46-year-old man who was injured in a shooting in Compton last week and later died at a hospital was publicly named on Monday.

He was identified as Aaron Hammer by the Medical Examiner’s office. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, in the 13000 block of South Long Beach Boulevard, situated between Alondra and Greenleaf boulevards.

On that evening, deputies observed a vehicle containing three suspects on the westbound Artesia (91) Freeway and initiated a pursuit, as reported by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspects exited the freeway at Central Avenue in Compton, subsequently driving to 139th Street and Parmlee Avenue, where they abandoned their vehicle, according to Sheriff’s Deputy Tracy Koerner, who spoke to City News Service.

During the chase, the suspects fired at the deputies multiple times, as confirmed by a department spokeswoman. Fortunately, no deputies sustained injuries during the shooting; however, a patrol vehicle was hit by gunfire during the pursuit.

After leaving the vehicle, the suspects fled into the nearby neighborhood. Deputies established a perimeter in the 14100 block of South Zamora Avenue, close to Central and Rosecrans avenues in a small unincorporated area adjacent to Compton.

The Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Bureau intervened and apprehended the three suspects at approximately 5:50 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28. Investigators retrieved three assault rifles from the suspects’ vehicle. Details regarding their booking, including names, ages, and genders, were not immediately disclosed.
