Briquann Chapman Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the man from the city who was fatally shot in downtown on Monday afternoon.
The deceased has been named as 31-year-old Briquann Chapman, as stated by New Haven police Chief Karl Jacobson during a news conference on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of Chapel Street at approximately 1:44 p.m. on Monday, according to Jacobson. Upon arrival, they discovered spent shell casings and narcotics on the sidewalk, as reported by Jacobson.
Subsequently, officers found out that Chapman had been transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, Jacobson mentioned. “This seems to be a targeted incident,” Jacobson remarked. “We observed an individual approach Chapman and open fire on him.”
Initially, police had identified the victim as a 34-year-old man from New Haven. Jacobson pointed out that the department is acquainted with Chapman due to his criminal background.
