TORONTO, Canada — Graham Greene, the acclaimed Oscar-nominated actor whose work spanned film, television, and stage, has died at the age of 73.
Greene passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at a hospital in Toronto, according to multiple reports. His agent, Michael Greene, remembered him as “a great man of morals, ethics, and character” who will be deeply missed.
Born on June 22, 1952, in Ohsweken on the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario, Canada, Greene began his acting career in 1979 with a role in the Canadian series The Great Detective. Over the following decade, he became a familiar face in both Canadian and American productions, before earning international acclaim in 1990 for his Academy Award-nominated performance as Kicking Bird in Kevin Costner’s epic Dances with Wolves.
Greene went on to build an extraordinary career, appearing in films such as Maverick, Die Hard with a Vengeance, The Green Mile, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon. He also remained a steady presence on television, admired for the depth and authenticity he brought to every role.
Greene is survived by his wife, Hilary Blackmore, as well as his daughter and grandson. His contributions to cinema and his cultural legacy will be remembered for generations to come.
