Josiah Rettig Obituary, Death; – The Ingham County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the identity of Josiah Rettig, a 40-year-old resident of Gregory, Michigan, as the individual who lost his life in a tragic accident in Leroy Township early on Monday morning.

As reported by deputies, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, along with Meridian Township Police and the Williamston Police Department, responded to a call regarding an intoxicated man without a shirt, who was observed carrying a long gun in an apartment parking lot at 3 AM on W. Grand River Avenue.

Witnesses stated that the shirtless man uttered the phrase, “Do you want to get shot?” before he drove southbound on Elm Road in a truck while brandishing the firearm.

Shortly thereafter, numerous 911 calls were received concerning a man in a truck driving erratically and waving a gun.

A witness subsequently reported that a truck had collided at the intersection of Elm Road and Frost Road, and that the vehicle had ignited in a wooded area.

Deputies reported hearing gunfire and the sound of ammunition detonating, which they believed originated from the truck.

The Ingham Regional Special Response Team, along with the Lansing Police Department’s Special Tactics and Rescue Team, arrived at the scene equipped with a drone and armored tactical vehicles to ensure safety from the exploding ammunition.

Rettig was discovered deceased inside the truck, and there have been no reports of additional injuries.
