ARNAUDVILLE, La. — A fatal shooting over Labor Day weekend has marked the first homicide in Arnaudville in three years, authorities confirmed.
Police said 22-year-old Hayden Boudreaux has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly shooting 31-year-old Nathan Powell. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on August 30 at Tiger Touchdown, a popular Main Street store known locally as “Butch’s.” According to Police Chief Josh Ross, a fight in the store’s video poker room escalated into gunfire, and Powell was struck in the neck. He later died at a hospital.
Ross noted that the shooter and the victim were acquaintances, saying, “It wasn’t random. There was some tension between the two gentlemen but it wasn’t random.” Boudreaux was arrested at his home shortly after the shooting and booked into St. Landry Parish Jail.
“This is a senseless act of violence,” Ross said. “Both families have lost a son. These are two young men who had a whole life ahead of themselves.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
