Paul Buttari Sr Obituary, Death; – A 69-year-old man riding a motor scooter lost his life in a collision on Labor Day after being struck by a teenager operating an SUV.
As per a media statement, the deadly incident occurred just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of Elm Road and State Route 87 in Newbury. Law enforcement reported that a 2018 Ford Escape, driven by a 19-year-old, was traveling south on Elm Road. The SUV halted at the stop sign, then proceeded onto State Route 87, colliding with a 2007 Honda Helix motor scooter.
The scooter’s operator, identified as Paul Buttari, Sr., aged 69, from Newbury, was ejected from the vehicle. Officials stated that Buttari was taken by Newbury Township EMS to UH Geauga and subsequently flown to UH Cleveland, where he succumbed to his injuries. At the time of the accident, Buttari was not wearing a helmet, according to the troopers.
The teenage driver did not sustain any injuries in the incident.
Authorities indicated that alcohol was not a contributing factor in the crash.
It remains unclear whether any charges have been filed.
