Steven Perez,Donna Rae Gushwa Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identities of the two individuals who lost their lives in a four-vehicle collision that occurred last week in Elkhart County. The deceased are identified as 21-year-old Steven Perez from Elkhart and 69-year-old Donna Rae Gushwa from Milford.
The incident took place last Friday, August 29, shortly before 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of County Road 40 and County Road 17.
As per police reports, the operator of a Toyota GR8 was traveling east on County Road 40 when they failed to stop at a stop sign, resulting in a collision with a Ford Explorer heading south on County Road 17 and a Ford Escape traveling north on the same road.
The Ford Explorer, which was being driven by Perez, reportedly overturned and collided with a Honda CR-V that was also heading north on County Road 17.
According to police, Perez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle, leading to his death at the scene.
Gushwa, who was operating the Ford Escape, also reportedly succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota GR8, a 24-year-old resident of Wakarusa, was transported to the hospital due to complaints of pain and a potential broken collarbone.
Additionally, the driver of the Honda CR-V, a 59-year-old woman from Elkhart, was taken to the hospital for treatment of a broken ankle, clavicle, and knuckles.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Police have stated that all drivers, except for Perez, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident.
