Independence, NY: Motorcyclist Douglas F. Barney, 46, Killed, Four Injured in Labor Day Crash.

A motorcyclist was killed and four others were injured in a crash on Labour Day in Allegany County, according to New York State Police.

Troopers said the crash happened around 3 p.m. Monday, September 1, on State Route 248 in the Town of Independence.

Investigators reported that a 2004 Harley-Davidson, driven by Douglas F. Barney, 49, of Independence, was travelling west in the eastbound lane of Route 248 when it collided with an oncoming 2017 Toyota RAV4.

Barney was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allegany County Coroner’s Office. His body was transported to Olean General Hospital, where an autopsy is scheduled.

All four occupants of the Toyota RAV4 were taken to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville with minor injuries, police confirmed.

The crash remains under investigation. The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are assisting with the case.
