Nathan Alexander Orozco, 22, Grand Prairie, TX — Fatally Shot in Officer-Involved Shooting Following Domestic Violence Incident

Nathan Alexander Orozco, 22, tragically lost his life early Saturday morning following an officer-involved shooting, according to Grand Prairie Police.

Authorities say the incident began shortly before 1 a.m. when a woman called 911, reporting that her boyfriend, Orozco, was intoxicated, armed, and assaulting her while driving on Interstate 30. The vehicle exited Belt Line Road and stopped in a gas station parking lot, allowing the woman to safely leave.

When a police officer approached, Orozco allegedly refused instructions to show his hands and reached toward the rear of the vehicle.

“Fearing for his own life and the safety of the female, the officer discharged his weapon, hitting the suspect,” police reported. A loaded handgun was later recovered in the area Orozco had been reaching.

Orozco was transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead. The woman received medical treatment for her injuries and was released. Witnesses said Orozco had fired the gun multiple times from the vehicle prior to the officer’s arrival.

No other injuries were reported. The Officer-Involved Shooting Team at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation, while the Grand Prairie Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards carries out an administrative review. The officer’s identity has not been released.
