Lone Tree, Colorado — A devastating accident on Interstate 25 claimed the life of Sonja Storm, a Denver native, on Tuesday afternoon. Authorities say Storm was killed instantly when a tire detached from a northbound vehicle, crossed the median, and struck her car as she traveled southbound.
The crash occurred around 3:15 p.m. just north of RidgeGate Parkway, according to the Lone Tree Police Department. Despite the swift response of emergency crews, Storm was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle that lost the tire stopped immediately and is cooperating with investigators. Officials continue to examine the mechanical failure and surrounding circumstances to determine whether charges will be filed.
The collision shut down all lanes of southbound I-25 for several hours during evening rush hour, reopening shortly after 6 p.m.
Storm, remembered as vibrant, intelligent, and deeply compassionate, grew up in Denver and attended Douglas County High School before continuing her studies at UC San Diego. Though she had been living in California, she maintained strong ties to Colorado and was cherished by family and friends in both states.
Loved ones describe her as a bright spirit with a contagious smile, someone who made others feel seen and valued. Tributes across social media reflect the profound impact she had on her community.
