At approximately 1:25 a.m., deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff’s Substation responded to reports of a disturbance in the 600 block of Seventh Street, near the Bullpen I.B. Bar. When they arrived, deputies found an adult male suffering from traumatic injuries.
Deputies immediately began CPR until paramedics arrived and took over lifesaving efforts. Despite their attempts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s identity is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of family members.
Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and are currently interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. Authorities say the motive and exact circumstances leading up to the fight remain unclear.
“Based on information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community,” the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
