It is with very heavy hearts we announce that the founder of Save the Signs passed away. Corky Scholl was a dedicated father, photojournalist, and historian.
Corky started this page 13 years ago. After watching so many signs get taken down and forgotten, replaced by cookie cutter apartment complexes, he set out to document and preserve these signs and their history. You all reciprocated his passion with likes, follows, shares all the way to entrusting Corky with your own signs and histories.
Over the last 13 years Corky saved countless signs, empowered a community to care about these dwindling landmarks and pushed a simple ethical imperative on how these landmarks should be preserved.
Though Corky is gone his legacy will continue. This page will be maintained, history will be shared and signs will be saved. He inspired so many of us with his passion, dedication, humility and earnestness and truly brought the best out of all of us.
Corky has been working on a lot of stuff behind the scenes in the last year and we will be updating you all on the wonderful things he did often in silence. So don’t go anywhere, and thank you for your dedication to Corky and his legacy.
We ask that you please respect his family’s privacy and allow them to grieve in their own way with the grace and dignity they deserve.
