It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Emily A. Herberger (née Willis), beloved wife, daughter, sister, friend, and cherished member of her community. Emily was taken from us far too soon, leaving a hole in the hearts of all who knew her. She passed away on September 9th, 2025, at the age of 36.
Emily leaves behind her loving husband, Paul Herberger, with whom she shared an enduring and beautiful love. Their relationship, built on mutual laughter, unwavering support, and kindness, was a true testament to the bond they shared. Her passing also deeply affects her parents, Daniel and Sophia Willis (née Pelysko), and her devoted brothers, Nathan (Elizabeth) and Benjamin. Her memory will be forever cherished by her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, in-laws, and her lifelong best friend, Sara O’Brien, who stood beside her through every chapter of her life. Emily’s four beloved cats—George, Wheezy, Biggie, and Smalls—were also a source of joy and comfort to her, and they will miss her gentle affection.
Born and raised in Buffalo, Emily was an exceptional individual whose life was filled with both academic excellence and the joy she spread to others. A standout student at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Emily was known for her infectious laughter and dazzling smile that could light up any room. It was during these formative years that she met Paul, her soulmate and the love of her life. Emily then went on to earn her degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester, where her work ethic and positive energy made a lasting impression on all those she met. She was admired not only for her academic brilliance but also for her deep kindness and generosity.
After graduating, Emily’s professional journey flourished as she made an impact in her career, but it was her character and the relationships she fostered outside of work that truly defined her. Emily was deeply involved in her community, dedicating much of her time to the Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Company, where she served in the auxiliary alongside her husband, Paul, who proudly holds the position of Chief. Emily’s involvement extended to countless community events—Labor Day fairs, baseball games, cookouts, and New Year’s Eve parties—where her laughter, warmth, and eagerness to help were always evident. The bonds she formed with the men and women of the fire department were lifelong, and her commitment to helping others exemplified her giving nature.
Emily’s spirit will live on in the memories of her remarkable wit, boundless compassion, and the radiance she brought into every space she occupied. She had an innate ability to make others feel loved, heard, and appreciated. Whether with family, friends, or strangers, Emily’s love was felt deeply, and her presence will forever be missed.
A funeral service to honor Emily’s life will be held on Tuesday, September 16, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 9535 Clarence Center Rd., Clarence Center, NY. Visitation will take place on Monday, September 15, from 2-4 PM and 5-9 PM at Amigone Funeral Home, 8440 Main Street, Buffalo, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Ten Lives Club, an organization dear to Emily’s heart that helps animals in need, as a tribute to her deep love for her cats and all creatures she cared for.
Emily, you will be forever missed, always loved, and never forgotten. Your legacy of kindness, joy, and love will continue to inspire us all.
