It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Rick Kuraly, a respected figure in the world of ice hockey, a devoted family man, and a true gentleman both on and off the ice. Rick passed away in Massachusetts, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, humility, and unwavering love for his family, teammates, and the sport he cherished.
Rick’s name is etched into hockey history — not only as a talented player, but as a mentor, a leader, and an inspiration to many. As a proud alum of Miami University’s hockey program, Rick became a standout player whose skill, grit, and leadership helped define the team’s early success. He was later inducted into the Miami Hockey Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring impact on the program. His contributions extended far beyond the stats — he shaped a culture, built lasting bonds, and laid the foundation for generations of RedHawks to follow.
Rick’s passion for the game led him to wear the jersey of the Boston Bruins, a dream realized through hard work and relentless determination. Though his time on the professional ice was brief, his connection to the game never faded. He remained a lifelong ambassador for hockey, always supporting the next generation, including his beloved son, Sean Kuraly, who followed in his father’s footsteps and currently plays in the NHL.
Those who knew Rick will remember him for more than his athletic achievements. He was a man of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty — a loving husband, a proud father, and a trusted friend. Whether it was offering advice in the locker room, cheering from the stands, or sharing a laugh with loved ones, Rick had a way of making everyone around him feel valued and supported.
The Boston Bruins organization shared in the sorrow of his passing, offering heartfelt condolences to Sean and the entire Kuraly family. The hockey world — from former teammates and coaches to fans and community members — now mourns the loss of a true gentleman and lifelong student of the game.
As we remember Rick, we also celebrate a life lived with integrity, humility, and purpose. His love for his family, his commitment to his teammates, and his enduring influence on the hockey world will never be forgotten. He inspired many, both on and off the ice, and his legacy will continue through the countless lives he touched.
Rick is survived by his wife, his children, including Sean, and extended family and friends who will carry his memory forward with pride and love.
Rest in peace, Rick Kuraly.
