The community of Sardis, just north of Boaz, Alabama, is mourning the tragic and heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Branson Peppers, a sophomore at Sardis High School whose life was cut short in a fatal ATV accident on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

Branson, a beloved son, student, and athlete, passed away following a head-on collision while riding a four-wheeler, leaving behind a community stunned by the sudden loss of someone so young and full of promise.

Branson was more than a student. He was a dedicated wide receiver and safety for the Sardis High School football team, playing under Coach B.J. Brooks. Known for his speed, determination, and heart, Branson was just beginning to come into his own as an athlete.

Coach Brooks reflected with sorrow, saying, “He was just coming into his own.” His potential was undeniable, and his teammates looked up to him not only for his talent but also for the spirit and faith he carried onto the field.

Faith played a central role in Branson’s life. His mother, Nicole Blanchard, shared that everything her son did was grounded in his love for God. The message “Jesus Saves” on his football uniform was not just a phrase to Branson — it was a reflection of his identity and his guiding principle. Nicole recalled through tears, “Branson was loved, and he loved God. My son was saved when he was 6 years old. Branson loved the Lord.”

On Saturday afternoon, around 2 p.m., tragedy struck when Branson drove around a corner on his ATV and collided head-on with a car. The accident happened so quickly that there was no time to react. In that moment, a vibrant young life was taken, and Sardis was left to mourn.

In the hours and days that followed, the Sardis community came together in grief, remembrance, and prayer. On Sunday evening, hundreds gathered at the Sardis High School football stadium, where balloons were released in Branson’s memory.

His jersey number, #8, and his age, 15, were remembered in prayers and tributes. His mother described the moving scene: “Every player walked up to me and gave me a rose.” It was a testament to how deeply Branson had touched the lives of his teammates and how much he meant to the Sardis football family.

The outpouring of love has extended beyond the school. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers have rallied to support the family during this time of unimaginable loss. A meal train has been organized to help ease the burden for Branson’s family, ensuring that daily needs are met as they face the heavy weight of grief. Messages of condolence have flooded social media, with many describing Branson as a young man who was joyful, faithful, and full of light.

One tribute shared by a community member read: “Branson was more than a student — he was a son, teammate, friend, and a young man whose faith and smile touched everyone around him. Our hearts are with the Sardis community as they grieve. May God wrap his arms around his family and give them strength.”

Branson’s parents, Jason and Nicole, and his entire family are now left to process their devastating loss. Funeral arrangements are still being made as Nicole takes time to come to grips with what has happened. Even in her grief, she holds onto her faith, saying, “I know Branson is in Heaven.”
