Reinaldo Lefonts Obituary, Death; – On Monday, authorities disclosed the identity of a 68-year-old man who was fatally stabbed outside the Downey Library, where an individual not connected to the incident stole the ambulance of the responding paramedics.
The stabbing took place around 9:35 a.m. on Saturday in front of the library located at 11121 Brookshire Ave., as reported by Downey Police Department Lt. Dustin Doyle. The victim was declared dead at the scene.
He was identified as Reinaldo Lefonts from Downey, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office, which determined the cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries and classified the manner of death as homicide.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man believed to be homeless, was apprehended at Downey High School, Doyle stated.
“While emergency personnel were attending to the victim at the library, a male suspect, who was not related to the homicide investigation, took a Downey Fire Department ambulance that was stationed at the scene of the homicide,” he explained.
Downey officers pursued the ambulance to the city of Alhambra, where the suspect collided with a parked vehicle, Doyle noted.
This suspect was identified as a 52-year-old man residing in Los Angeles, he added.
Both incidents are currently under investigation, Doyle confirmed.
