The couple, who shared a profound love for music, the open road, and each other, were struck by a box truck that crossed into their lane near mile marker 136, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Doug and Kathy were more than partners in life — they were kindred spirits whose journey together was marked by adventure, community, and an unwavering connection to the Grateful Dead’s enduring spirit. As longtime and beloved members of the Deadhead community, they could often be found following the music, sharing stories, and building connections with fellow fans from coast to coast. Their presence at shows, gatherings, and on the road left an indelible mark on many lives.

Doug, a passionate storyteller and motorcycling enthusiast, brought laughter and wisdom to every circle he joined. Kathy, known for her radiant smile and nurturing heart, was a grounding force with a deep love for nature, music, and meaningful conversation. Together, they embodied the spirit of freedom and unity — always moving forward, always together.
