William,Ellen Nathan Obituary, Death; – On Thursday, authorities reported that a couple and their dog were discovered deceased at their residence in the Pocono area.
The deceased have been identified by law enforcement as William and Ellen Nathan, both aged 82, residing on the 100 block of Crocketts Crescent in Pocono Pines, Monroe County.
According to Pocono Mountain Regional Police Chief Chris Wagner, preliminary investigations suggest that the deaths were accidental, with indications pointing towards carbon monoxide poisoning as the cause.
However, autopsy examinations were scheduled for Monday to ascertain the specific causes and manners of death, as stated by Monroe County Coroner Tom Yanac.
Wagner mentioned that officers were dispatched to the couple’s residence just before 9 p.m. on Thursday for a welfare check, following a request from a relative. The relative informed the police that they had not been in contact with the couple since the previous weekend.
The security department of the private community reported to the police that they had visited the home and detected the smell of propane, according to the police chief.
Firefighters from Tobyhanna Township were called to the scene and identified “extremely high levels” of carbon dioxide within the residence, Wagner noted.
Investigators proceeded to ventilate the home and subsequently located the couple along with their dog.
Additionally, fire officials discovered a malfunctioning appliance at the scene, as reported by Wagner.
