Brendan Heisey Obituary, Death;- A 22-year-old student from Messiah University has been identified by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office as the pedestrian who tragically lost his life on Friday morning near the South Gate of Messiah University.
Brendan Heisey, a resident of Elizabethtown, was hit by a train while walking along the railroad tracks in the 400 Block of Grantham Road in Upper Allen Township, as reported by the coroner’s office.
According to Norfolk Southern, the incident occurred on a railroad track close to the Grantham Road overpass (not at a public grade crossing). The train was traveling northbound, as stated by Norfolk Southern.
The coroner’s office indicated that he sustained multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Upper Allen Township Police and the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
The Upper Allen Township Police Department reported that the crash occurred at 10:48 a.m.
The university has announced that it will provide updates to the public as more information becomes available. The southern entrance to the campus remains closed.
There were no injuries reported among the train crew.
