Colorado Springs, CO – Authorities have released the name of the pedestrian who was struck and killed earlier this month on a northbound on-ramp to Interstate 25. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said the victim has been identified as Anthony Dutchak, 31.
According to CSPD, officers were dispatched shortly before 6 a.m. on Wednesday, September 10, to the MLK Bypass at I-25 after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, they found Dutchak deceased on the northbound on-ramp.
Investigators said preliminary evidence indicates Dutchak was hit at least once by a passing vehicle. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office later confirmed his identity following an autopsy conducted on September 11.
CSPD’s Major Crash Team has taken over the investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision. Detectives noted that impairment is not believed to have played a role, though the case remains active as authorities work to locate all parties involved.
Police reminded drivers to remain vigilant, particularly in low-light conditions, and urged anyone with information about the crash to come forward. Tips can be submitted to CSPD’s non-emergency line or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
According to CSPD statistics, Dutchak’s death marks the 42nd traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year — a slight increase compared to 39 fatalities recorded at the same time in 2024. City officials continue to stress the importance of safe driving practices as local traffic deaths trend upward.
