David Kapay Kallo Obituary, Death – Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Woodbridge, Prince William County police announced. The arrests follow the killing of 35-year-old David Kapay Kallo of Frederick, who was gunned down last Saturday night. Police said both suspects, who are 18 years old, are being held without bond.
The incident occurred on the 13700 block of Telegraph Road, across from the Target store on Prince William Parkway. According to Lt. Jonathan Perok, spokesman for the Prince William County Police Department, Kallo had been in an argument with the suspects before the shooting broke out. He reportedly tried to walk away when he was fatally shot. Fire and rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
A second victim, a 27-year-old man, was also struck by gunfire during the incident. Police described him as an unintended target who was standing nearby when shots rang out. He managed to flee the scene and was later treated at a hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Investigators identified one of the suspects as Jordy Lopez Campos, an 18-year-old from Woodbridge. Police said Campos had been fighting with Kallo before allegedly shooting and killing him. Campos was arrested on Tuesday and has been charged with murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
A second suspect, identified as 18-year-old David Omar Benitez Martinez of Dumfries, was arrested on Friday. He faces four counts of being a principal in the second degree to the commission of a felony, as well as an accessory felony charge. Police allege that he was involved in the dispute leading up to the shooting, though not the gunman.
Perok explained that investigators believe the confrontation between Kallo and the two teens escalated into violence that ultimately led to the shooting. At this time, police do not believe the incident was random. Instead, they emphasized that it appears to have stemmed from the argument between the individuals involved.
The killing of Kallo has left family and friends grieving as they grapple with the sudden and violent nature of his death. At 35, Kallo’s life was cut short in a confrontation that authorities believe could have been avoided. The fact that another bystander was also injured adds to the seriousness of the case, highlighting how quickly disputes can spill over and affect others nearby.
The arrests of Campos and Benitez Martinez mark a significant step forward in the investigation. Both young men are now in custody, and prosecutors will determine the next steps as the case proceeds through the courts. Police have not released further details about the events leading up to the shooting or what sparked the initial argument.
For now, Prince William County police continue to investigate, but they have stressed that the community is not believed to be at risk from random violence related to this case.
