Justin Fratantuono Baltimore MD Death – The Naval Nuclear Laboratory and the Charleston community are mourning the loss of Justin John Fratantuono, a dedicated NPTU project analyst, loving husband, and father. Justin, 32, passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, and colleagues heartbroken. The cause of death has not been made public by his family.
Born on August 13, 1993, in Baltimore, Maryland, Justin was the cherished son of Janine Fratantuono-Cox (List) and Gary Fratantuono. From an early age, Justin demonstrated qualities of leadership, integrity, and compassion that shaped his life and career.
Justin graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2015, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Ocean Engineering. Shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart in a beautiful ceremony at the Naval Academy Chapel, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.
Following his commissioning, Justin served with distinction as a submarine officer aboard the USS Kentucky (SSBN 737) in Silverdale, Washington. He later transitioned to a shore duty role as a shift engineer on the USS Daniel Webster (MTS 626) at the Nuclear Power Training Unit (NPTU) in Charleston, South Carolina.
After completing his military service, Justin continued his commitment to the nation’s defense as a project analyst for the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. His technical expertise and leadership skills allowed him to make meaningful contributions to the Navy’s nuclear program. Always striving to learn and grow, Justin went on to earn an MBA from the University of South Carolina and a graduate certificate in Technical Project Management from The Citadel.
Outside of his professional life, Justin lived with passion and joy. He had a lifelong love of sports, particularly baseball, which he played during high school and later in recreational leagues. During his time at the Naval Academy, he discovered a love for powerlifting and later enjoyed golf outings with his father, brother, and friends. Justin was also a loyal supporter of the Navy Midshipmen football team.
Justin’s home was a place of warmth and hospitality, where he and his wife loved hosting friends, cooking meals, and creating lasting memories. He was happiest surrounded by his family, especially his daughters. He cherished every moment with Quinn Julia and Theodora Mary, from Disney trips and bedtime snuggles to proudly joining Quinn in Irish dance competitions as her figure dance partner.
He is survived by his loving wife, Emily Fratantuono; daughters, Quinn Julia and Theodora Mary; mother, Janine (Mike) Fratantuono-Cox; father, Gary (Kelly) Fratantuono; brother, Dominic Fratantuono and fiancée, Skyler; step-siblings, Megan Cox and Michael Allen Cox; sister-in-law, Casey (Chris) Hudson; nephews, Harvey and Tripp; niece, Sage; and parents-in-law, James and Patrice Sadler.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, 1520 Rifle Range Road, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will follow on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church, 990 Etiwan Park Street, Charleston, SC 29492.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Justin and Emily’s Education Fund, dedicated to supporting the future education of his daughters.
Justin will be remembered for his devotion to family, his unwavering service, and the kindness he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will continue to live on through the love of his family and the many lives he touched.
