With profound sadness, the family of Terry McKenna announces her passing on September 19, 2025. A beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Terry touched the lives of all who knew her with her warmth, kindness, and unshakable generosity of spirit.

Terry will be forever remembered by her children, Paige McKenna (Vince Duquette) and Ryan McKenna (Julia McKeown), who were the great pride and joy of her life.

She is also lovingly survived by her mother, Dianne Gavey; her sister, Kim Marcus (Ralph Marcus); and her dear nieces, Samantha Nicholls and Jessica Nicholls. Terry was predeceased by her father, Bud Gavey, whose athleticism and love of sports she inherited.

Born in Toronto on March 10, 1965, Terry spent much of her childhood in Peterborough and Orangeville before eventually settling in Kingston, the community that would become her lifelong home.

After beginning a career with Bell Canada, Terry chose to dedicate herself fully to motherhood when her children were born—a decision she described as her greatest privilege and most rewarding role. Paige and Ryan were at the center of her world, and she raised them with encouragement, humor, and unconditional love.

Terry’s adventurous spirit led her far beyond Kingston as well. She was an eager traveler, collecting stories and friendships from every corner of the globe. Her journeys took her across the sweeping landscapes of Africa, the historic coastlines of the Mediterranean, the fjords of Scandinavia, and the warm shores of the Caribbean.

These experiences deepened her love for culture and broadened her already open heart. Closer to home, Terry’s athletic nature and competitive spirit shone through. She was a lifelong supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays, rarely missing a game.

Whether cheering from her living room or in the stands, she celebrated every victory with enthusiasm and took every loss with resilient humor. Her love for sports was also reflected in her own active lifestyle and her ability to inspire others to embrace teamwork, energy, and perseverance.

Despite her many adventures, Terry found the greatest joy in life’s simplest pleasures. She could often be found wandering the aisles of her favorite local nursery, filling her garden with color and life. She was the kind of person who struck up conversations with strangers that quickly blossomed into lasting friendships.

Known for her generosity, Terry never hesitated to offer help, often going out of her way to support others. Those close to her often remarked that she would truly “give the shirt off her back” if it meant easing someone’s burden.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at James Reid Funeral Home in Kingston (please enter from the rear parking lot) on October 1, 2025, from 3–5 pm, with words of remembrance shared at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Partners in Mission Food Bank, an organization close to her heart.

Terry’s kindness, love, and vibrant energy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
