The American Ninja Warrior community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Jonathan Sharp Brown, a beloved competitor, passionate athlete, and dedicated member of the Ninja family, who died by suicide on September 24, 2025.
He was known not only for his incredible physical abilities and creative approach to the course but also for his perseverance, resilience, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of what was possible.
Jonathan, a native of Merritt Island, Florida, first gained national attention during Season Six of American Ninja Warrior, where he competed in the Miami qualifiers. Displaying both speed and determination, he successfully cleared the first five obstacles and, despite falling short on the Warped Wall in qualifying, advanced to the finals.
There, he conquered the Warped Wall but was ultimately stopped at the Salmon Ladder, finishing in 12th place and earning a coveted spot in the Las Vegas finals, where he fell on the Jumping Spider.
Over the following seasons, Jonathan became a familiar face on the Ninja Warrior circuit. In Season Six finals, he placed second in the Miami qualifiers with an impressive time of 51.11 seconds—second only to fan favorite Drew Drechsel. Although he once again fell on the Jumping Spider in Vegas, his relentless drive and improvement made him a respected figure among competitors and fans alike.
Jonathan continued to compete in subsequent seasons, always known for his inventive and bold approach to the course. In Season Seven, he made headlines for his creative attempt to leap entirely over the Rolling Log—an unorthodox and unforgettable moment. Though he fell on the Paddle Boards that year, his daring strategy showed his fearless spirit.
Despite setbacks—including waiting 23 days in the walk-on line in Season Eight and facing disqualification in Season Nine—Jonathan never gave up on his dream. His resilience was a testament to his deep love for the sport and his desire to inspire others. In Season Ten, he returned with renewed determination but faced controversy that ultimately led to his disqualification and ban from future competitions.
While his competitive career ended prematurely, Jonathan’s influence on the Ninja Warrior community continued. His innovative obstacle designs, relentless training, and willingness to push the envelope helped shape the sport’s evolution. Fellow ninjas often described him as passionate, driven, and endlessly creative—a person who approached every challenge with heart and intensity.
News of Jonathan’s passing sent shockwaves through the American Ninja Warrior world. Competitors and fans alike shared heartfelt tributes across social media. Ninjas such as Vance Walker, Michael Johnson, Caleb Bergstrom, Morgan Wright, Jamie Rahn, Danny Bergstrom, Devin Harrelson, Kevin Carbone, and Anthony Eardley were among the many who honored his memory, reflecting on his talent, kindness, and the legacy he leaves behind.
Jonathan’s story is a powerful reminder that even those who seem the strongest can be fighting battles we cannot see. His passing underscores the importance of compassion, understanding, and mental health awareness.
Jonathan Sharp Brown’s fearless pursuit of his dreams, his love for the sport, and the inspiration he brought to countless fans will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Ninja community.
