Missing 17-year-old Caden Rex Speight classified as an endangered juvenile, no evidence of abduction by Hispanic men

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) continues to actively search for 17-year-old Caden Rex Speight, who remains missing and classified as an endangered juvenile. Multiple units — including MCSO Detectives, the Aviation Unit, Field Force Unit, and Mounted Unit — are engaged in ongoing search efforts.

The investigation began following a reported shooting in the 12800 block of SW Highway 484 around 4:10 p.m. on September 25, after which Caden was reported missing.

However, detectives have since gathered information and evidence that do not support the initial claims provided in the early stages of the case.

At this time, authorities state there is no evidence indicating that Caden was abducted by four Hispanic men in a light-colored van, as was originally believed.

Instead, investigators have developed information suggesting that Caden may have left the area on a black mountain bike.

He was also seen in possession of a red and gray tent, which he reportedly purchased earlier that day at a Walmart located on SW 19th Avenue Road in Ocala.

Because Caden is still missing and considered endangered, MCSO is urging anyone who may have seen an individual matching his description — particularly someone traveling on a dark-colored bicycle and carrying camping gear — to immediately call 911.

Sheriff Billy Woods issued a statement emphasizing the agency’s commitment to locating Caden:

“We respond to every 911 call with a determination to ensure justice is served and the truth revealed. But any law enforcement officer will tell you that when these calls involve juveniles, it takes on an even greater intensity. This case is no different. My deputies responded immediately, and I have dedicated all of my available resources to respond to this event. Initial information was later determined to be inaccurate; however, we always give everything we have until the investigation takes us in a different direction. I appreciate the many citizens who provided tips and information to assist my detectives. Please know, I will continue to have all of my available resources committed to locating this young man.”

This remains an active investigation.

Anyone with information regarding Caden’s whereabouts is strongly encouraged to contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
