Tychicus Armondo Deshazer Obituary, Death; – Police in a southern Georgia city fatally shot a man on Thursday after he reportedly fired at vehicles waiting outside a school for student pickups.
A Valdosta police officer heard gunfire and observed a man entering the grounds of S.L. Mason Elementary School, as stated in a report released by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Friday. Officers confronted and subsequently shot a 25-year-old man named Tychicus Armondo Deshazer from Valdosta.
Despite attempts by officers to administer first aid to Deshazer, he succumbed to his injuries before reaching a hospital, according to investigators. No other injuries were reported. Investigators did not disclose the motive behind Deshazer’s gunfire at the school, which had nearly 900 students enrolled in prekindergarten through fifth grade last year.
School officials promptly dispatched buses filled with students and ushered children waiting for pickups back inside, placing the school on lockdown. Those students were later released to their parents.
Lisa Figueroa, a grandparent who had just collected her granddaughter, informed WALB-TV that the incident “could have been so much worse,” commending the swift actions of police and school officials.
