Haverhill Police Mourn the Loss of Officer Katelyn Tully – “A Sister in Arms” Remembered for Her Strength, Compassion, and Service

The city of Haverhill, Massachusetts, is in mourning after the sudden and heartbreaking death of Officer Katelyn Tully, a respected member of the Haverhill Police Department. The Haverhill Police Patrolman’s Association confirmed the news late Friday evening, sharing a heartfelt tribute that reflected the deep sorrow felt throughout the department and the wider community.

News of Officer Tully’s passing began circulating early Friday morning after reports emerged of a death on Bartlett Street. While details were initially scarce, confirmation came just before noon when the Patrolman’s Association posted a somber image of a Haverhill police badge draped with a mourning band — a traditional symbol of law enforcement mourning the loss of one of their own.

In a statement shared with WHAV, the Patrolman’s Association expressed profound grief over the loss of their colleague and friend:

“Today, we lost our sister in arms — a dedicated officer whose presence left a lasting impact on everyone she served beside. She was more than a colleague; she was family. Her quiet strength, unwavering integrity, and fierce loyalty to her duty set a powerful example for all of us. She approached each challenge with grace and resilience, never backing down when others needed her most.”

Neither the union, city officials, nor the office of Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker initially released the officer’s name as the investigation unfolded. However, authorities have since identified her as Katelyn Tully, a beloved officer whose dedication to her profession and her community earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.

According to officials, there is no indication of foul play in Tully’s death. City officials deferred to the district attorney’s office for details, as protocol requires. Tucker’s Chief of Staff, Sharyn Lubas, explained that the investigation is ongoing but emphasized that the death does not appear suspicious.

“As with any death investigation, it remains under investigation by our office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner,” Lubas said. “We do not share decedent information when the death has occurred in a residence and is not suspicious in nature.”

Union members described Officer Tully as a compassionate, selfless, and devoted public servant whose influence extended far beyond the walls of the police station.

“She was caring, considerate, and compassionate — qualities that defined her both in and out of uniform,” the Patrolman’s Association said. “Whether offering a listening ear, lending a helping hand, or leading with empathy, she embodied everything we hope for in an exceptional officer. Her absence leaves a void that words cannot fill, but her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the hearts she strengthened. We will carry her memory with us always.”

As the investigation continues, the people of Haverhill are coming together to support one another and honor the memory of a woman who dedicated her life to protecting and serving her community. Officer Katelyn Tully will be remembered not only for her professionalism and bravery but also for the kindness, strength, and humanity she brought to every interaction.

This is a developing story.
