Malika Jackson and Marquez Brown, two young men, died in a fatal Hinesville shooting incident

Hinesville police confirmed that two soldiers from Fort Stewart, found dead inside a townhome on Rebecca Street, were victims of a double homicide. An autopsy performed by the GBI crime lab revealed gunshot wounds as the cause of death. Chief Detective Capt. Chris Reid, from the Hinesville Police Department, stated that the presence of a third individual at the scene was implied.

The investigation indicates no signs of a physical struggle. Reid did not specify the number of gunshot wounds sustained by the victims. The identities of the deceased were later confirmed as Malika Jackson, 21, from Montgomery, Alabama, and Marquez Brown, 23, from Macon, Georgia. Both were stationed at Fort Stewart.

Responding to an anonymous call, Hinesville officers discovered the bodies Sunday night in the 300 block of Rebecca Street. Reid initially noted that the deaths appeared unnatural but avoided discussing the underlying cause beyond referencing the gunshot wounds. He also mentioned there were no indications of illegal activity at the residence.

According to an incident report by HPD Officer Rahshe Solomon, police were first dispatched to the townhome around 9 p.m. Sunday. Officer Norman Ewing observed the men and significant bloodstains through a window before police entered the property. Both victims were found unresponsive.

Interestingly, law enforcement had previously visited the same house Saturday night due to a noise-related complaint. The officers reported finding the location quiet upon arrival that evening.

Fort Stewart issued a press statement on Monday confirming the two men were active-duty soldiers assigned to the base.
