Watervliet, MI — The Watervliet community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Chayse Ott, a beloved senior and member of the Watervliet High School Boys Varsity Football team, who tragically passed away following a car accident.

Chayse’s untimely death has left family, friends, classmates, and teammates struggling to come to terms with losing someone so young, full of promise, and with a bright future ahead.

Chayse was more than just an athlete. Those who knew him remember a kind-hearted, spirited young man whose presence could light up a room. His dedication to football reflected not only his athletic skill but also his commitment to teamwork, camaraderie, and the shared values that sports instill in young people.

Coaches and teammates recall late nights under the stadium lights, rigorous practices, and moments of triumph and challenge—all of which helped form a tight-knit brotherhood that Chayse was proud to be part of.

In a heartfelt message, a teammate and classmate reflected on the profound impact of Chayse’s life: “It’s so hard to find the words when someone so young, with so much life ahead, is taken far too soon. A senior year is supposed to be filled with memories, laughter, and the excitement of what’s next—not goodbyes. Seeing the bond of teammates and the memories made on the field, I’m reminded that football is so much more than a game. Those memories, those friendships, will live on forever. My heart aches for his family, friends, and everyone who had the blessing of knowing him. May his spirit live on in the stories, laughter, and love that will always be remembered. Rest easy, Chayse. The Watervliet Youth Football and Cheer program also expressed deep sorrow, extending thoughts and prayers to Chayse’s family, friends, and teammates.

In honor of his memory, the community is encouraged to attend the Varsity football game on Friday, October 3, at 7:00 PM, for the home game against South Haven. The presence of the community and supporters is meant to provide comfort and solidarity during this difficult time.
