LAKE HALIFAX, NS — The community is mourning the sudden and unexpected passing of Fraser Rory, a devoted father, husband, and respected arborist whose life was marked by kindness, dedication, and a passion for both his family and his craft.

Rory was the General Manager and ISA Certified Tree Worker — Climber Specialist with Woodpecker Treecare, where he became known not only for his technical skill and attention to detail but also for his unwavering commitment to safety and customer care. Since earning his International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Tree Worker — Climber Specialist credential in 2016, Rory has established himself as a first-rate climber and an admired professional in the arboriculture community.

Beyond his work with clients, Rory was an active volunteer in the annual ISA Atlantic Chapter Tree Climbing Competition, where he brought both skill and enthusiasm. At Woodpecker Treecare, colleagues described him as a steady, dependable leader whose “chipper attitude” lifted those around him. He handled much of the company’s customer service and quotes, serving as the friendly face and reassuring voice for countless families and businesses.
A Life Rooted in Family and Adventure

While Rory was born in Halifax, he spent much of his childhood in Muscat, Oman, where he developed an early love for the outdoors. He often recalled fond memories of snorkeling, fishing, and sailing with his parents and siblings in the warm waters of the Gulf of Oman.

His career path was as unique as it was inspiring. Before entering arboriculture, Rory worked as an elementary school librarian in Oman, sharing his love of learning with children. Eventually, he embraced tree work wholeheartedly, blending physical skill with intellectual precision in a field that requires both courage and care.

In 2013, Rory and his wife, Katrine — a beloved teacher and server at Bistro Le Chat Bleu — made their home in Sackville, New Brunswick, where they laid down roots for their growing family. Together, they raised two children, Isla and Rowan, who always saw their father’s profession as something magical and ordinary all at once — “just what Dad does.”

Outside of work, Rory’s life was filled with adventure and community. He was a familiar face on the ultimate Frisbee field, an enthusiastic player whose spirit of camaraderie matched his competitive edge. He treasured time with his wife and children, whether gathered at home, exploring outdoors, or visiting his parents at Sherbrooke Lake, Nova Scotia.

Friends and family describe Rory as gentle, thoughtful, and endlessly encouraging. To his colleagues, he was the heart of the team. To his children, he was a hero. To his wife, he was a steadfast partner and friend. Rory died suddenly this week.

The suddenness of Rory’s passing has left his family, friends, and colleagues reeling, but his impact will continue to resonate through the lives he touched. His legacy is not only in the trees he climbed and the clients he served, but in the kindness, humility, and joy he brought into every relationship.

Rory is survived by his wife, Katrine, his children, Isla and Rowan, his parents, siblings, and a wide circle of extended family, friends, and colleagues who will carry forward his memory with love.
