UVA Suicide: Student Found Dead in Dorm; Death Investigation Underway

Charlottesville, VA — Friday, October 3: A death investigation is underway at the University of Virginia after a student was found deceased in a campus residence hall Friday morning.

According to the University of Virginia Police Department, officers were called at around 11 a.m. to a dormitory following a report of an unresponsive individual. Emergency responders arrived and confirmed the student had died at the scene.

Law enforcement has stated that the case is being investigated as a suicide. The name of the student has not been released pending family notification.

The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the UVA community, with students, staff, and alumni expressing grief. The Charlottesville community and members of the Virginia Cavaliers football program are also mourning the loss.

In a statement, the university said:
“We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our own. Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends, and all who knew them. We encourage anyone struggling to reach out for support and to lean on the resources available here at UVA.”
