Latrell Clark Obituary, Death; – On Monday evening, a gunman opened fire on two sheriff’s deputies at a courthouse in Plaquemine, Louisiana, resulting in one fatality and leaving another deputy in critical condition, according to authorities.
Sheriff Brett Stasi Sr. of Iberville Parish, Louisiana, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that Charles Riley, a deputy with six years of service at the Iberville Sheriff’s Office, was the officer who lost his life.
The sheriff’s son, Brett Stassi Jr., a deputy with two decades of experience, sustained injuries and is currently in intensive care, fighting for his life following surgery, as reported by the sheriff.
The shooter was killed at the scene, as stated by the state police. It remains unclear whether he was shot by law enforcement or if he took his own life.
The shooter has been identified by state police as 27-year-old Latrell Clark from White Castle, Louisiana. At the time of the incident, he was being processed in connection with a sexual assault case. Authorities have not disclosed how the suspect acquired the firearm.
Sheriff Stassi indicated that he would rely on the state police for additional information regarding the investigation.
Iberville Parish is located southwest of Baton Rouge. The courthouse where the incident occurred also houses offices for the parish government and the sheriff’s department.
