Nicki Ketterling and Larry Ketterling Murder-Suicide Missouri: Further details released after elderly Oakville couple’s death on Chinon Drive

Authorities in St. Louis County are investigating a suspected murder-suicide that left an elderly couple dead late Sunday night inside their Oakville home. The incident occurred in the 100 block of Chinon Drive, sending shockwaves through the quiet suburban community.

According to a statement from the St. Louis County Police Department, officers were dispatched to the residence at approximately 11:36 p.m. on October 5 after reports of gunfire. When officers arrived, they discovered two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. Despite lifesaving efforts by first responders, both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The victims have been identified as Nicki Ketterling, 77, and her husband, Larry Ketterling, 77. Investigators believe that Larry Ketterling fatally shot his wife before taking his own life. Police confirmed that no other individuals were involved and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

Detectives with the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons are leading the investigation as they work to determine what may have led to the tragic shooting. Crime scene investigators spent several hours at the residence overnight collecting evidence and speaking with neighbors to piece together the events leading up to the couple’s deaths.

Neighbors described the Ketterlings as quiet, kind, and long-time residents who largely kept to themselves but were always friendly in passing. “It’s just heartbreaking,” one nearby resident said. “They were such a sweet couple — we never imagined something like this could happen here.”

Police have not released any additional details regarding a possible motive. The Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct autopsies to confirm the official cause and manner of death.
